There are several ways to keep costs down without compromising on creativity; firstly, hold
the party in your own premises – this will give you control of the entire event and spend. DIY transformations of office spaces, meeting rooms, board rooms and venues can still look spectacular. Take a normal boring boardroom for example, add beautiful props, backdrops
and decorations and the area can change dramatically. Have a red carpet leading from the
lifts, little gels changing the colour of the overhead lights from bright white to soft gold, drapes
at the entrance, low level tables set on colourful rugs and huge plush cushions interspersed
with smaller brocade ones, cover the oversized boardroom table in burgundy velvet cloth
and offer hungry guests mouth watering platters of delicate canapés arranged beautifully
on massive brass plates set amongst petals and tiny flickering tea lights.
These transformations can take the shape of any theme and style, however around Christmas
time there is always an emphasis on Winter Wonderland where the addition of flaming icebergs
and superb polar bears can truly set the scene for a wonderful party. Other top tips to make
your party the best in town are: adopt the red carpet treatment – it’s always a winner – and
put flaming lights at the entrance to give off a lovely warmth on a cold winter’s night. And
don’t forget the bubbly! Served by beautifully costumed waiters in long fluted glasses, it
will always get people in the mood.
Always try to inject something different to add Wow factor – maybe a beautiful girl sitting in an oversized glass, blowing bubbles on guests and use beautiful table decorations such as huge martini glasses or metre high gold candelabras.
It is always great to set a theme; Hollywood or Bollywood, Indian elephants, dancing girls and
exotic settings, Buddha bars, Rickshaws, Moulin Rouge, James Bond (always a winner) or perhaps go back to London’s roots; a cockney Christmas assures a good old fashioned time
with flower girls and pickpockets set around a market where pies, cakes and mulled wine is
served from traditional carts, while the pearly king and queen sing to those who listen.
To give it style, use glowing canapé trays or perhaps themed food stations such as a Jamaican beach hut, or an around-the-world buffet with fish being served from upturned boats, and ice
cream from coloured stop-and-buy trikes. The last and most important tip is ‘be a guest at your own party’; ensure everything arrives early, and use only very reputable companies – many companies are falling like flies as they own no stock and have nothing to back up their service.
Theme Traders can simply hire props for a DIY party, or they can deliver and set up the
area
in a really short time space, often only with an hour or two, and yet still guarantee the
Wow factor. There are not many party companies that own their own stock but Theme
Traders is one of the largest international party planning companies around and their vast
beautiful variety of decorations can be viewed online - a good starting point for any party
organiser - followed by a visit to the showrooms which are truly like an Aladdin’s cave.
The inspiration will take a grip and fantasy will turn into reality.
During the winter season there are always more ideas for special themes, so whilst the
economic climate is unstable and budgets are tight, remember a bit of imagination doesn’t
cost anything!
